St. Columba is a well-known and beloved Saint whose memory is still living and strong, especially in Ireland and Scotland. Support your teaching on St. Columba and make your students’ learning more enjoyable and meaningful by using this highly visual method of organising information about this saint.
These 7 mind maps complement the presentation on St. Columba (found here) and can be used in conjunction with 'St. Columba: Life and Times' , a free resource which can be found here.
When and how to use these mind maps
✶ these comprehensive mind maps are very useful reference tools and an excellent visual aid to engage all pupils;
✶ pupils can work in groups and each group is asked to write down 1-2 paragraphs about one aspect of St. Columba such as his life, works or legacy etc, using the information included in each mind map;
✶ the resource could be used as a prompt for creative, factual or descriptive writing;
✶ the mind maps can also be printed off, laminated and displayed, making great additions to your classroom walls.

‘Hindu Festivals: Diwali’ is the third lesson of the unit ‘Exploring Hinduism’ (unit plan can be found here and the complete unit of study here) and it is designed to last 1-2 periods. ‘Hindu Festivals: Diwali’ complements ‘Diwali Fun Activity Pack’ and ‘Diwali Jigsaw Puzzles’.
The resource contains a PowerPoint to give structure to lessons, a flip chart with engaging activities for students and worksheets. The animation added to all slides helps teachers to pause whenever necessary to explain, expand or clarify any questions pupils may have. Should the teacher want to add other pieces of information which he/she thinks is relevant Diwali or to change the order of slides, the PowerPoint is fully editable to allow all of these.
There is a mixture of stimulating and attractive activities which ensure high-quality learning experiences for all students: give me 5; think pair share, missing words activity, class discussions, drawing Rangoli patterns etc. There are many opportunities for class discussions to encourage young people to present their own opinions and respect the views of others. All activities are clearly linked to success criteria and they proved to be very successful in helping pupils consolidate their knowledge and understanding of Diwali. I have included a sample of pupils’ feedback which was very positive.
At the end of this topic you can celebrate pupils’ success with one of these certificates.

This bundle is a complete pack of resources which assists teachers and students to research various ways in which different people reacted to the Nazi regime and produce a report which fully investigates the chosen topic.
Aim of this research:
Teaching Holocaust history demands a high level of sensitivity and awareness of the complexity of the subject matter. It is hoped that this research project will provide your students with a clearer understanding of the Holocaust as a story for all of humanity and will encourage them to think critically about important issues and values not only within the historical context of the Holocaust, but also in contemporary society.
The structure of the research project:
This project is an ideal activity to be used at the end of the unit 'Exploring the Holocaust’ and it is structured in three parts. It is designed to be used over a number of weeks and it is flexible in that you can choose how much time to spend on each section.
In Part 1, Beginning to investigate, students identify the five topics they can choose from and they are given guidelines on how to write the report and to gather basic information about their topic.
In Part 2, Investigating–class time, students choose one aspect of the Holocaust, research from a website and make notes about key points, write up their findings, reflect on what they have read and written, and present their projects.
In Part 3, Celebrating success, students peer- and self-assess the projects, reflect on their learning and celebrate success.
